Groundbreaking ceremony

The construction begins

The time has come: the Swiss Children’s Hospice Foundation celebrates the start of construction of the Flamingo Children’s Hospice with a ground-breaking ceremony.

On 5 December, the representatives of the Swiss Children’s Hospice Foundation will meet with sponsors, neighbours and other interested parties for the ground-breaking ceremony – finally the construction helmets can be put on and the excavators started. The Swiss Children’s Hospice Foundation has been working towards this day for its favourite project for a long time. “After an intensive planning and preparation phase, we received the building permit for the Flamingo Children’s Hospice in September 2023. We are very pleased to now start construction with the ground-breaking ceremony,” explains Jürg Herren, President of the Swiss Children’s Hospice Foundation and the Board of Directors of Kinderhospiz Flamingo AG. The team from “apb architekten ag” Uster is responsible for the design and realisation of the appealing and concept-compliant new building. The planned building has a total area of 2,475 square metres.

At the ground-breaking ceremony, Director of Finance Ernst Stocker gives a greeting from the Zurich government, emphasising the need for a children’s hospice. The cantonal government therefore wants to support the construction of the Flamingo children’s hospice with money from the charitable fund. Specifically, the canton is to contribute CHF 6 million or a good third of the construction costs. The application has now been submitted by the Government Council to the Cantonal Council for approval.
